Officials of the local branch of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the road block should be moved to Githurai in Kiambu to allow Murang’a traders access to their business premises in Thika town and its environs.
Led by Festus Kamau Thanduru, the officials said the cessation of movement has impacted negatively on the county since hundreds cannot access their business premises and their places of work.
Speaking in Murang’a town, Kamau said the road block manned by General Service Unit officers should be relocated to Kiambu County to give traders smooth access to Thika town.
Movement of residents from Gatanga and Kandara has been affected as the road block was mounted at the start of Nyeri-Nairobi highway.
At the same time, the officials urged the county to consider waiving land rates, single business permits and liquor licences for six months to cushion traders.
They want parking fees also reduced.
