UAE Sends Medical Aid to Kenya in Fight Against COVID-19

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 6 – The United Arab Emirates sent an aid plane Wednesday containing medical supplies to Kenya to bolster the country’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

In a statement, United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation said the aid is intended to assist thousands of medical professionals as they work to combat the virus.

UAE Ambassador to Kenya Khalid Khalifa AlMualla said with the move, UAE underscores that it stands with Kenya and its neighbors as they work to combat the virus.

“The UAE is actively engaged in strengthening the fight against COVID-19 throughout Africa,” he said, adding, “The UAE leadership affirms that no country is left behind as the world comes together to defeat COVID-19.”

To date, the UAE has provided more than 433 metric tons of aid to over 37 countries, supporting nearly 433,000 medical professionals in the process.

Kenya has received help from different partners to fight the virus, including US$50 million from World Bank Group to support Kenya’s response to the global COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

Locally, the government has received more than Sh1 billion in national emergency COVID-19 kitty.
