Government extends ban on international flights by 30 days

The government has extended the ban of international passenger flights by an additional 30 days effective April 6.

Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia also directed Countries that would like to evacuate their citizens to give a 72 hour notice.

Macharia also urged public service operators in the Country to adhere to safety regulations or risk cancellation of their licenses.

The CS said the decisions were arrived at after serious consultation since the two-week ban issued on March 22 expires on Sunday midnight.

The suspension will however not apply to those flights coming in to evacuate foreign nationals as long as they give a 72 hours notice.

The ban also exempts cargo flights coming in to the country to deliver goods subjected to approval.

Macharia also said that Kenya Airways will fly to China on Wednesday 8th April to airlift the much-needed medical equipment necessary in the fight against the coronavirus.

The CS also saying that prisons visits have been suspended for another 30 days.
