TSC vows not to slash pay

Teachers March salaries: The Teachers Service Commission has announced that teachers will not receive reduced salaries for the month of March.

This follows fears that the commission would slash pay following the on set of coronavirus and the suspension of the academic schedule. “We want to assure teachers their March salaries will be paid in full before end month,” TSC head of communications Beatrice Wababu said.

Data from TSC on full pay shows that based on implementation of the 2016-2021 salary increment under the collective bargaining agreement, the lowest paid teacher, under job group B5 (Primary teacher II, formerly job group G), will receive Sh. 24,476. Secondary teacher III and Primary teacher I, who fall under job group C1 (formerly job groups H, J), will earn Sh. 30,595.

Secondary teacher II, Secondary teacher II UT, primary Special Needs Education teachers, under job group C2 (formerly job group K), will take home Sh. 39,595.Chief Principals, formerly in job group Q and R but now in D5 will take home Sh. 139,735.

Schools in Kenya have been closed for a period of 30 days as part of the government’s efforts to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
