A sombre mood has engulfed Githabai village in Kinangop after three children from same family were burnt to death in a fire tragedy.

Household goods of unknown value were destroyed in the tragedy.  The three girls aged between two and eleven years died while undergoing treatment at Naivasha sub-county hospital where they had been rushed for treatment.

The trio, two sisters and a cousin had been left in one of the houses by the parents when their wooden structure burst into flames trapping them inside.

According to Jane Wanjiku who lost two children, they had left the minors in the house as they worked on the farm.

A witness, John Kihara, said the cause of the fire was a still a mystery, adding that by the time they rescued the minors they were unconscious.

“The fire started from the kitchen and spread very fast and we managed to rescue them from the burning house and took them to hospital, but they did not make it,” she explained.

Area MCA, Engineer Samuel Rimui, pledged to support the affected families.

The CEC for Education in Nyandarua County, Mwaura Njoroge, also said the county government would use its resources to support the two families.
