Auditor General’s Appointment Delayed – Kenyan Wallstreet

by biasharadigest

Auditor General’s appointment may take longer than anticipated pending conclusion of a case filed by activist Okiya Omtatah.

The Employment and Labor Relations courts suspended the appointment process to look into the issues raised by Omtatah.

In this case, Omtatah accuses the Public Service Commission (PSC) of failing to select three nominees from a list of 15 despite the candidates meeting the technical requirements such as academic qualifications.

Moreover, he notes that the selection panel should have selected three top candidates based on the set criteria and forwarded the names to the President.

Omtatah argues that the selection panel’s decision to re-advertise the vacancy of auditor general was unconstitutional

This in turn implies that state corporations such as KenGen and Kenya Power will delay publishing their audited financial reports. State Controlled companies must secure the Auditor General’s approval before reporting the audited financial results.

Former AG Edward Ouko left office in August following completion of his 8-year non-renewable tenure.
