Victor Wanyama offers to sponsor secondary education of six needy high school students ▷ Kenya News

– The six will have their secondary school education fully catered for through Wanyama’s charity foundation

– The organisation had initially offered to support two students before reviewing the number upwards

– The decision was arrived at following an overwhelming number of applications received

Harambee Stars captain and Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama has committed to support six needy secondary school students.

Wanyama, through his charity organisation, Victor Wanyama Foundation had initially pledged to sponsor two students, a boy and a girl.

However, he later revised the figure upwards, resolving to sponsor four more owing to the big number of applications received.

Two of the lucky six are set to join the prestigious Maranda High School after excelling in the recently released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations.

The six include Sammy Oriko and Lamech Makokha who have been a emitted at Maranda, Eva Moraa (Sironga Girls High School), Daniel Kitusa (Nanyuki High), Omondi Tamara Zawadi (St. Joseph Cheptiret) and Trizah Shem who’s been admitted at St. Brigids Kitale.

The sextuplets will enjoy free tuition and boarding throughout their four years in high school, courtesy of the Kenyan skipper.

“We wish to announce winners of the scholarship. The six students will receive full educational scholarships for the four years they will be in high school and also any other necessary support to ensure they are fully settled in school and working hard to achieve their goals,” a statement from the foundation said.

“Initially the plan was to sponsor two needy students but all the cases received were genuine and heart-warming. We had to extend the number to accommodate those we felt were extremely needy and required our support,” the statement continued.

Wanyama has also pledged to visit all the six at their new institutions when he visits Kenya mid 2020.

The combative midfielder also has plans of setting up a fully- fledged Sports Academy in Busia.

The philanthropic Harambee Stars midfielder recently bought a team buss do his former club, County Club that is based at Muthurwa where he grew up.
