– Some of those with exaggerated hairstyles are senior police officers who have funny weaves and overcoloured hair
– Mbugua says police uniform is a sign of authority and should be given respect it deserves
– He has charged police commanders to ensure all officers dress modestly and the styles should not be tolerated when 2020 starts
Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua has warned female police officers against adorning themselves with complicated makeup and exaggerated hairstyles.
Mbugua said that he had observed during his countrywide trips that most police officers, even seniors ones, had flawed guidelines spelling how they should be dressed while at work.
The deputy IG pointed out instances where he encountered female officers with complicated hairstyles that could not even allow them to put on official caps.
“During my official tour around the country the last week, I observed with a lot of concern that officers of all ranks have flawed the service dress code especially women hairstyles while in uniform.
I observed with dismay exaggeration hair weaves and styles, and overcoloured hair, some officers could not even put on peaked caps or berets,” the notice dated Friday, December 20, read.
According to the police boss, exaggerated makeup was in utter disrespect of the office held by uniformed officers.
He warned that the styles will not be condoned as the new year (2020) starts.
Mbugua has charged all senior police officers to ensure modest appearance is observed by everyone in the service.
“There is dire need to recognise that police uniform is a sign of authority and should be accorded the respect it deserves.
As from Wednesday, January 1, 2020, this overdone hairstyles will not be accepted. Commanders at all these levels should ensure that these directives are followed,” the letter copied to Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutymbai read.
