Residents of Taita Taveta county could soon go into fresh elections if a petition by county governor Granton Samboja that seeks to dissolve the county over budget impasse by members of the county assembly sails through.

Samboja is urging area residents   to sign the petition claiming members of the county assembly are holding his administration hostage for selfish reasons.

Taita Taveta county boss wants his county dissolved and residents subjected to fresh elections over what he claims is the consistent undermining of his administration’s development plans by members of the county assembly.

When spearheading the process that seeks to have at least 18000 residents sign the petition, Samboja claimed the move by MCAs to pass a 5.3 billion shillings with each MCA allocating themselves 41.5 million shillings forward projects would bring county operations into a halt.

In the allocation, members of the county assembly are to receive 830 million shillings through the ward development fund.

The petition appears to be gathering substantive support with residents of Wundanyi vowing to have the current MCAs sent parking for reneging on their promise to the electorate.

The Constitution only allows for suspension of a county government by the President in case of an emergency arising out of internal conflict or war or in any other exceptional circumstances.

However, the suspension which can only be for a period of 30 days, has to receive the nod of the senate.
