In 2018, the internet was abuzz with disappointment, insults and bitter sentiments after Eric Omondi shared a photo of himself stack naked in the company of kids.

What the world did not know is as the comedian’s friends and sponsors deserted him, late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore stood by Eric.

In a heart wrenching tribute, Eric narrated how in the midst of confusion the top telecommunications boss encouraged him and assured the comedian everything would be okay.

Bob congratulated the entertainer for apologising for his actions noting a public figure does more harm when they stay quiet.

A screen grab of the late boss’s lengthy message portrayed maturity, fairness and unapologetic affection.

“Hi Eric, you did well to apologise. I do not think you did anything wrong. My friend Richard Branson once did a launch while clothless and we all chuckled and moved on. Comedy is a tricky area where you have to push the boundaries from time to time and go beyond pulling funny faces and doing silly voices,” Bob said.

The Safaricom boss then chose to sponsor Eric’s stadium tour which was scheduled to take place two weeks later.

During the whole misunderstanding, corporates who were supposed to sponsor the comedian’s tour backed out and stopped picking his calls but one man stood by Eric through it all.

The entertainer angered his fans and critics when he visited a village in Turkana and decided to indulge in a skinny dip in the company of young kids.

However, some people supported his actions saying it was a normal practice among residents of that area.

Ever since his death was announced by Safaricom on Monday, July 1, celebrities and Kenyans have come out to narrate their lovely encounters with the unforgettable man.

Bob died after a brave battle with Accute Myeloid Leukemia.

In 2017, the CEO jetted out to the United Kingdom and returned to Kenya nine months later.
