A section of leaders from Western Kenya led by Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali have criticized opposition leader Raila Odinga and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi for calling for the arrest of Deputy President William Ruto over assassination plot claims.

The DP allegedly complained to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations about four Cabinet Secretaries who reportedly planned to harm him.

The leaders instead called for the arrest of COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, Jubilee party Secretary General Raphael Tuju and former chairman David Murathe for alleged negative remarks on the DP.

They also defended Ruto against accusations of making huge donations to churches as they dismissed plans by ODM to table a bill that seeks to regulate contributions to churches.

The four leaders spoke in Malava constituency during a fundraiser to build a catholic church in Shihome.

Earlier, Three Cabinet Secretaries from Mt. Kenya region denied claims that they were plotting to harm deputy president Dr. William Ruto.

The Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya of Trade and Industry, Joseph Mucheru of Information Communication and Technology and Sicily Kariuki of Health say they were summoned by Directorate of Criminal Investigations but did not record statements as the Deputy President has not filed a formal complaint.

Addressing the press outside DCI headquarters last month, trade and industrialization CS Munya termed the claims as malicious.

Munya said they were informed by DCI detectives that the complainant had made a call and complained that some cabinet secretaries together with other senior government officers have been meeting and planning to harm him.

Munya denied ever having a meeting to hatch any scheme to harm the DP or any other person.

However, he confirmed that they have been meeting on an agenda to accelerate development in Mount Kenya region, and vowed to continue meeting.

CS  Munya said there is nothing unusual or sinister for people from a particular region in this country to hold meetings.
