In an unexpected twist of events, Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Karanja Kibicho has filed a complaint against Deputy President William Ruto at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Kibicho, whose name has featured prominently in the alleged plot to assassinate the deputy president, accused the DP of constant harassment.
A report by The Standard shows, the PS had been expected to appear at the DCI headquarters to respond as an accused, but on the night of Tuesday, June 26, he went there as a complainant.
“The PS was at the DCI headquarters from 7pm to record a statement on the past events. He was giving his version on the happenings and gave details of those who witnessed the same,” a government official was quoted.
“He was not there to record a statement on the alleged La Mada Hotel meeting but to give details of what has transpired in the recent past with his boss,” he added.
According to Kibicho, Ruto and his allies have been harassing him, sometimes making unsubstantiated remarks against him in public thereby threatening his life as a public officer.
The government official further noted, the PS claimed the outbursts by MPs are meant to ridicule, embarrass, harass, intimidate and scare him from executing his mandate.
He is said to have cited an incident at the JKIA where he said Ruto confronted him over allegations of frustrating his visits across the country and “almost roughed him up”.
The new developments adds more complications to the charge that adds a new twist to an ongoing investigation against on claims of a plot to undermine the DP.
Kibicho had been mentioned as the convener of a meeting at La Mada Hotel along Thika Road, where the plot against Ruto allegedly featured, prompting the summoning by the DCI.
Both Kibicho and George Kinoti are yet to give an official statement on the filed complaint, however, the DCI noted his officers are making progress with the investigations.
“We will brief you once we are through with our investigations. Just remain patient and give us time to undertake our work professionally,” said Kinoti.
