Isiolo International Airport underutilized due to lack of marketing

Lack of marketing and misconceptions that Isiolo International Airport is still under construction are some of the factors contributing to underutilization of the facility.

Eastern Regional Coordinator Isaiah Nakoru says the government is set to begin a series of talks with citizens, cargo and passenger airlines as well as other relevant stakeholders to boost flight activities at the airport.

It cost close to Ksh 3 billion to construct Isiolo International Airport that was commissioned more than a year ago.

However, government officials are concerned that the facility remains underutilized servicing about 30 flights weekly.

This prompted the Regional Development Implementation Coordination Committee to conduct an extensive tour of the airport to assess the utilization levels of the facility.

Miraa farmers and passengers from both Isiolo and in Northern Kenya are being encouraged to make maximum use of the facility.
