Kenya Airways starts flying to Rome and Geneva

Kenya’s National air carrier has increased its European network by adding flights to Rome and Geneva. The airline says the two new routes are strategic as it aims to grow its reach and grow its earnings.

KQ will fly to the European cities four times a week. The new routes will increase KQ’S network in Europe to five cities, namely; Paris, London, Amsterdam, Rome, and Geneva.

Kenya Airways suspended flights to Rome in 2012 in a cost-cutting exercise.
KQ aims to capitalize on the many travellers moving between Nairobi and Geneva. The Swiss Ambassador to Kenya Dr. Ralf Heckner said he expects increased partnerships, trade agreements, and tourism between Kenya and Switzerland.

Additionally, the airline aims to benefit from the large number of Italians who visit Kenya. In 2018, more than 65,000 visitors to Kenya came from Italy. The national carrier has signed a partnership with Alitalia, an Italian airline, to improve the passenger experience for people flying from Italy into Africa.

The loss-making airline has been keen on expanding its network. In 2018, it launched flights to Mauritius, New York, Mogadishu, and Libreville. The carrier aims to grow its market share and compete with other airlines operating in Africa.
