Mama Elizabeth was roasting maize near the famous Sigiri bridge in Budalangi, Busia county on Friday, June 7, her daily business that has sustained her for years.
But unknown to her, top government officials led by Deputy President William Ruto were in the area to launch various projects and in the end, the team would pass by.
The DP has a liking for roast maize especially those that are sold by the road side.
On several occasions, Ruto has often been forced to make a stop over and manoeuvre his way through his roadside audience to grab a piece or two.
It did not come by surprise when the country’s second most powerful man stepped out of his official car and made his way to the vendors.
The business woman and her colleague was between being shocked and surprised when Ruto asked her name even as he bought what he likes most.
Onlookers who included area residents, some of who had traveled all the way from Sio Port, ullalated and screamed “hustler” repeatedly as he made it rain literally.
The hustler tag is a name associated with the Jubilee politician.
Ruto was in the area to launch of a 10,000-acre Lower Nzoia Irrigation Project that is projected will benefit 12,000 households in Busia county.
The ambitious project is expected to consume KSh 5.8 billion.
At the same time, the DP handed over of a five-acre parcel of land to the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Institute from Governor Sospeter Ojaamong’s government.
